The Cardener is a small tributary of the Llobregat in Catalonia ( Spain ). Its source is in the Pyrenees , at Castellgalí it flows into the Llobregat.

River course

The source of the Cardener (1,100 m) lies in the municipality of La Coma i la Pedra in the Comarca Solsonès ( Lleida ). The place is located in the Pyrenees in a valley between the mountains Port del Comte (2,332 m) and Verd (2,271 m).

The catchment area of ​​the river covers 1,374 km². This is located in the eastern half of the Comarca Solsona , the eastern part of the Comarca Berguedà and in areas in the Comarcas Bages and Anoia .

The Sant Ponç reservoir is located near the city of Solsona in the municipality of Olius. It has a storage volume of 24 million m³ of water. The dam is 46 m high and was built in 1921.

After 87 km the Cardener joins the Llobregat at Castellgalí near Manresa. There are five sewage treatment plants on the banks of the river .
