Edwin Bernard Broderick (born January 16, 1917 in New York City , USA , † July 2, 2006 in Albany ) was Bishop of Albany .

Life

Edwin Bernard Broderick attended Regis High School in New York City from 1930 to 1934 . Broderick then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers . He received on 30 May 1942 in the St. Patrick's Cathedral by the Archbishop of New York , Francis Spellman , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Edwin Bernard Broderick then became curate of the Nativity of Our Blessed Lady Church in the Bronx . From 1943 to 1947 he taught at Cardinal Hayes High School . 1951 Broderick was at Fordham University in the subject English Language doctorate . In the same year he became director of the archbishop's radio and television station. From 1954 to 1964, Edwin Bernard Broderick was the private secretary of Francis Cardinal Spellman. In 1964 he became rain of St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers.

On March 8, 1967, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Diocese of Thizica and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in New York. The Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Francis Spellman, ordained him episcopal on April 21 of the same year at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City ; Co-consecrators were the New York Auxiliary Bishops Terence Cooke and George Henry Guilfoyle . As auxiliary bishop, Broderick continued to rule St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers until 1969 .

On March 19, 1969 Paul VI appointed him. to the Bishop of Albany. Edwin Bernard Broderick resigned as Bishop of Albany on June 3, 1976 to become director of Catholic Relief Services (CRS). During his tenure, the CRS organized the rescue of many refugees from Southeast Asia. Broderick resigned from the CRS in 1983.
