William Aloysius Scully

William Aloysius Scully (born August 6, 1894 in New York City , USA , † January 5, 1969 in Albany ) was Bishop of Albany .

Life

William Aloysius Scully studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC He received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of New York on September 20, 1919 .

Scully then became a curate at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in New York City. Afterwards he was pastor of the parish of St. Mary in Troy . William Aloysius Scully became Secretary of Education in the Archdiocese of New York in 1940. 1941 was him by Pope Pius XII. awarded the honorary title of Pontifical House Prelate .

On August 21, 1945, Pope Pius XII appointed him. the titular bishop of Pharsalia and ordered him to Coadjutor Bishop of Albany. The Bishop of Albany, Edmund Francis Gibbons , ordained him episcopal on October 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Brooklyn , Thomas Edmund Molloy , and the Bishop of Ogdensburg , Bryan Joseph McEntegart .

William Aloysius Scully became Bishop of Albany on November 10, 1954, succeeding the resigned Edmund Francis Gibbons.

Scully attended the first and second sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
