Austrian handball championship 2001/02
The 41st season of the Austrian handball championship began in August 2001 and ended in May 2002. The reigning champions of the 2000/01 season A1 Bregenz was able to defend his title.

Handball League Austria
Ten teams are represented in the top division, the HLA. The championship was divided into several phases. In the main round, all teams played a simple round trip against each opponent. After that, the league was divided into two groups.
The first eight teams played in a further round-trip round to make it into the HLA final, while the last two teams had to fight against the best four teams in the second division to stay in the league.
