Austrian handball championship 2000/01

The 40th season of the Austrian handball championship began in August 2000 and ended in May 2001. The reigning champion of the 1999/2000 season HSG Remus Bärnbäch / Köflach could not defend his title. Instead, jet2web Bregenz was able to achieve the first championship title in the club's history.

Handball League Austria

Ten teams were represented in the top division, the HLA. The championship was divided into several phases. In the main round, all teams played a simple round trip against each opponent. After that, the league was divided into two groups.

The first six teams played for the championship title in another round-trip round, while the last four teams had to fight to stay up.
