Lucas Mayer (born February 16, 1983 in Bregenz ) is a former Austrian handball player .

Career

Mayer started playing handball at HC Lustenau in his youth . From 2001 he ran for Vorarlberg in the fifth German league. It was not until 2006, at the age of 23, that the 1.85 meter tall and 87 kilogram heavy backcourt player was signed up by Bregenz Handball and thus entered professional handball. In the 2007/08 season he was voted "Newcomer of the Year" by the Handball League Austria . On April 20, 2008 the left-hander was called up for the first time in the national team . In January 2015, Mayer ended his career in the national team, with which he took part in the 2010 European handball championship and in the 2011 and 2015 handball world championship . In the fourth round of the 2015/16 season , Mayer tore a cruciate ligament and was out until the quarterfinals. Four games later, in the semifinals against Alpla HC Hard , the cruciate ligament tore again. In 2017 the Lustenauer ended his career.

With Bregenz he played in the EHF Champions League (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and the EHF Cup (2010).

For the Austrian national team , he scored 160 goals in 78 international matches.
