Handball Bundesliga 1995/96

The handball Bundesliga 1996/97 was the 19th of the single-track seasons and the 31st season of the highest German division in men's handball in the history of the Bundesliga . The season began on September 14, 1996 and ended with the last game day on April 27, 1997.

16 teams played for the German championship. The first in the table on the last day of the match is German champions 1997. New season promoters were TuS Schutterwald and VfL Fredenbeck . In addition, the DHB Cup was played for the 23rd time.

The 1997 German champion was the TBV Lemgo team for the first time in the club's history .

The teams of TuS Schutterwald and VfL Fredenbeck , who only got promoted at the beginning of the season, had to relegate from the handball Bundesliga to the 2nd Bundesliga . Relegation games were played for the third time in the history of the Bundesliga after 1974/75 and 1975/76 : TSV Bayer Dormagen was 14th and had to play two games against HSG Dutenhofen / Münchholzhausen to stay in the 1st Bundesliga, Dormagen was able to join get two victories.
