Handball Bundesliga 1972/73

The 1973/74 season of the Handball Bundesliga is the eighth of the double-track seasons in its history .

For the first time, 19 teams played in two seasons (ten in the north and nine in the south) for the German championship in 1974. The game for the championship has been preceded by a semi-final since the 1969/70 season , for which the first and second in the table of the North and South seasons qualified after the 18th matchday. The winners from the semi-finals competed against each other in a final. The winner is German champion 1974. The new season's climbers were the SV Hannover police , Reinickendorfer Füchse , TSV 1846 Butzbach , TUSEM Essen and TV 1893 Neuhausen .

The German champion in 1974 was the VfL Gummersbach team for the fifth time in the club's history , defeating the winner of the North Season, TuS 05 Wellinghofen , in the final. The Reinickendorfer Füchse , SG Dietzenbach , TUSEM Essen and TV 1893 Neuhausen had to dismount .

The VfL Gummersbach also won the European Champions Cup .
