history

The Police Sports Club Hannover e. V. on January 30, 1920. The then politically and economically insecure conditions in the early years of the crisis in the Weimar Republic made it much more difficult for police officers to practice regular sporting activities. So it was not possible for them to regularly take part in the practice lessons of the Hanoverian clubs. They were also exposed to hostility because of their profession.

20 young police officers therefore founded their own sports club in Hanover. The initiator at the time was Lieutenant Rieke. The club was initially called the "Sports Department of the Security Police"; In 1922 it was renamed “Police Association for Physical Exercise”, since 1923 it has been called “Police Sports Association Hanover eV” - with one interruption: As a result of occupational regulations, the association was renamed “Sports Association of the Hanover Police SK Grün-Weiß e. V. ". The sports soccer and athletics were there from the start.

After training was initially carried out exclusively in police properties, the laying of the foundation stone for the “Police Stadium” in front of the Hanoverian Waterloo Column was announced for New Year's Day 1927. In fact, in 1927, the PSV received a training ground and club house on Bischofsholer Damm instead. The square and clubhouse "An der Breiten Wiese" has been located in the Heideviertel since 1967. The association has been the leaseholder of the Kleefelder Bad (Annabad) since 1995. Club members receive discounted season tickets there. The office is located in the building of the Hanover-East police station.

Although all branches are geared towards popular sport, top athletes who have been successful nationally and internationally have emerged from the PSV several times. In 1957 Wolfgang Pautz became German heavyweight amateur boxing champion and Wolfgang Fricke was German champion in athletics over 3000 meters in 1962 .

In February 2007, Klaus Glahn , second in judo at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , received his 9th Dan from the then police and club president Hans-Dieter Klosa in the rooms of the club house . He had become European champion in the colors of PSV in 1963.

The men's handball team was part of the “North Staffel” right from the start in 1966 when the two-track Bundesliga was founded. In 1968 , however, the descent followed, but in 1973 the rise again. In 1975 it went one step down again, before being represented in the upper house again in 1977 when the now “single-track” Bundesliga was founded - but only for one season.

At the end of the 1981/82 season, the promotion to the first Bundesliga was again successful. In the 1982/83 season , however, the team was withdrawn after the 17th matchday for economic reasons. The 16 games played up to then were taken out of the rating.

The team was champion of the Regionalliga Nord in 1973 and 1977. In the all-time table of the German handball Bundesliga, PSV is still 54th out of a total of 90 Bundesliga clubs (as of the end of the 2013/14 season).

In 1980 PSV member Erwin Skamrahl became German champion in the 400-meter run , a year later German champion in the 200-meter run . In the same year he achieved the same success in the hall .

Member Manfred Küchler, who was head of the boxing division until the end of 2012, is a regular referee and referee at major boxing events. Among other things, he led a show fight between Regina Halmich and Stefan Raab in Cologne in 2007 .
