Klaus Glahn (born March 23, 1942 in Hanover ) is a German judoka and judo functionary.

Life

Klaus Glahn began judo and wrestling in August 1958 at the Turnerbund Stöcken (Hanover), where he stayed until September 1961. Then Glahn moved to the Hanover Police Sports Club (until 1970). Although the club was always geared towards popular sport, Glahn quickly made the leap into top international judo sport.

From 1970 Glahn started for VfL Wolfsburg and celebrated numerous national and international successes. He won a title four times at judo European championships (three times individual and one team European champion). He was also on the podium at six World Judo Championships.

At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Klaus Glahn won the bronze medal in the open class. After judo was not an Olympic sport in 1968 , it reached the final of the heavyweight class in Munich in 1972 . Only there Glahn lost to the Dutchman Willem Ruska and won the silver medal. In the open class, he also achieved fifth place.

Klaus Glahn was German heavyweight judo champion seven times from 1965 to 1973. From 1966 to 1968 he was also the master of the masters three times. There are also nine judo titles in the open class. With the eight German judo team championships (two with the police SV Hannover, six with the VfL Wolfsburg) Glahn won 27 German titles.

From 1970 to 1975 he was director of the Judo Center in Wolfsburg and achieved numerous championship titles and Olympic placements with the judoka he trained. From 1988 to 1990 Glahn was the first manager of the newly founded Olympic base in Hanover / Wolfsburg.

Klaus Glahn was Vice President of Competitive Sports at the DJB from 1982 to 1985. From 1985 to 1988 he was President of the German Judo Association and from 1985 to 1988 Vice President of the European Judo Union (EJU).

Professionally, Klaus Glahn worked for Sprengel Hanover, Volkswagen, Grube / Tietze and Partner in Bad Homburg and Romika in Trier as a sales manager. After reunification, he worked for Adidas as a sales representative in the new federal states and helped to build up the dealer network.

In the 2009 European elections , Glahn was the top candidate for the Pensioners' Party (RRP).

In November 2013, Klaus Glahn appeared on the ARD program The Show of Incredible Heroes with Matthias Opdenhövel . In a judo exhibition match, Glahn proved that at the age of over 70 he can hold up against younger people very well.

Today Klaus Glahn leads various judo courses and events for the DDK ( German Dan College ). He lives in Wolfsburg with his wife Edith .
