The German Dan-Kollegium e. V. (DDK) is an association that aims to represent all Budo sports in Germany.

backgrounds

The DDK e. V. was founded on September 20, 1952 in Stuttgart and is the first and oldest Budo organization in Germany. After it was founded, the Kodokan gave it contractual legitimation to teach judo in Germany and to hold both Kyū and Dan exams. In 1956 the DDK became a member of the German Judo Association (DJB), whereby the DDK was still responsible for teaching and testing. In 1982, for the 30th anniversary of the DDK, the Kodokan renewed the contract in which the DDK was granted the right to graduate for Germany.

Due to financial disputes, there was a falling out between the DDK and the DJB in the early 1990s. Basically, it was about the graduation right claimed by the DJB in the early 1990s. The main point of the dispute was the question of whether the graduation is a terminable contractual relationship or a non-revocable special right of the DDK with or against the DJB according to the BGB . After it had been judicially determined that it was not a matter of a special right , but of an order, the DJB withdrew the DDK's responsibility for the examination system, which ultimately ended with the DDK's exclusion from the DJB. The development of new examination regulations in the DJB, which began in 1990, did not take place because of this dispute with the DDK, but in the course of the 1991 merger of the DJB with the German Judo Association (DJV). Before the merger, the negotiators of the DJV had agreed with the DJB to develop new joint examination regulations, which, after consulting Helmut Bark, also took into account the principles and procedures of the DJV. The DDK was not included in these negotiations by the DJB because of the dispute and the termination of the right to graduate .

Since then, the DDK has been cultivating popular sport as its own association and the judo taught by Kanō Jigorō . In contrast to the DJB, the DDK recognizes the exams of the other association.

In 1995, the Kodokan questioned the contract with the DDK, as recognition of the right to graduate was granted on the condition that the DDK was responsible within the German Judo Federation (as Germany's representative in the International Judo Federation). Since this responsibility had lapsed in the meantime, in the opinion of the Kodokan, the right to graduation also expired. The DJB therefore asked the DDK to discontinue this claim. However, since the DDK is of the opinion that this is an international contract without a termination clause, it takes the view that the contract cannot be prematurely terminated and thus the DDK's legitimation to conduct examinations cannot be revoked.

For a long time, the club has been trying to become a member of the German Sports Association , which would enable DDK members to participate in sports aid and insurance; However, this has so far failed due to the resistance of the Budo umbrella organizations based in the DSB.
