Niclas Ekberg (born December 23, 1988 in Ystad ) is a Swedish handball player .

Career

The right wing player , who is 1.91 meters tall and weighs 96 kilograms , was under contract with the Swedish club Ystads IF HF until 2010 . He played with Ystad in the EHF Challenge Cup (2009/10). Since summer 2010 Ekberg ran for the Danish first division club AG København , with whom he won the championship in 2011 and 2012. After AG København went bankrupt in July 2012, Ekberg was free of contracts and signed a contract with THW Kiel until 2015 at the beginning of the 2012/13 season , which he extended from 2014 to 2018. He won the DHB Cup with the THW in 2013, 2017 and 2019 , the German championship in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2020 and the EHF Cup in 2019 .

Niclas Ekberg has so far completed 176 international matches for the Swedish national team , in which he scored 718 goals. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won the silver medal with Sweden and was the top scorer with 50 goals.
