Thierry Omeyer (born November 2, 1976 in Mulhouse , France ) is a former French handball goalkeeper who last played for the French club Paris Saint-Germain . In 2008 he was elected world handball player. He is a knight of the French Legion of Honor and an officer of the French National Order of Merit . With five World Cup titles, he is the sole record holder in this category and with ten titles in major handball events (World Cup, European Championship, Olympic Games), he is the most successful national player to date.

Career

With Montpellier HB Omeyer won five French championships and five cup wins. In 2003 he won the Champions League with Montpellier . With the THW Kiel he reached u. a. In 2007 and 2012 the triple with winning the Champions League, DHB Cup and German championship. After the 2012/13 season, Thierry Omeyer returned to France and played again for Montpellier. For the 2014/15 season he moved to Paris Saint-Germain together with William Accambray . He ended his career after the 2018/19 season.

In September 1999 he made his debut for the French national team in the European Championship qualification in Dijon against Romania . With her Omeyer was 2008 and 2012 Olympic champion, 2001 , 2009 , 2011 , 2015 and 2017 world champion and 2006 , 2010 and 2014 European champion.
