Bertrand Gille (born March 24, 1978 in Valence ) is a former French handball player . During his playing days, he was considered one of the best circular runners in the world and was voted World Handballer of the Year in 2002. He is an officer of the French National Order of Merit .

Bertrand Gille, who was 1.87 m tall and weighed 98 kg when he was active, began his career in the French town of Valence at HBC Loriol. The move to Chambéry Savoie HB in 1996 also meant for Gille the change of position to the circle runner. With Chambéry Savoie HB he celebrated the French championship in 2001 and the league cup victory in 2002.

On July 1, 2002, Bertrand Gille (shirt number 14) moved together with his brother Guillaume Gille to HSV Hamburg in the handball Bundesliga . The brothers won the DHB Cup with HSV Hamburg in 2006 at the Final Four in the local Color Line Arena in Hamburg and the Cup Winners' Cup the following year . In the 2010/11 season he was German champion. In summer 2012 he returned to France with Guillaume to Chambéry Savoie HB, where the youngest brother Benjamin also plays. In 2015 he ended his career.

Bertrand Gille was an integral part of the successful French national team of the 2000s.

With the selection he became world champion in 2001 in his own country. At the 2006 European Championships in Switzerland , he was able to confidently defeat the reigning world champions Spain in the final. His greatest successes include two Olympic victories in 2008 and 2012 . In 2010 he was able to win the European championship again and in 2011 the world championship.

He played 268 international matches, in which he scored 806 goals.
