Cristina Georgiana Neagu (born August 26, 1988 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian handball player . She was awarded four times as a world handball player by the International Handball Federation in 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2018.

Career

Cristina Neagu played in Romania at CSS 5 Bucureşti, Rulmentul Brașov and from 2009 at CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea , with whom she won the championship in 2010 and reached the final of the EHF Champions League in 2010 , where they lost to the Danish club Viborg HK . At the beginning of 2011 she was voted World Handball Player of the Year 2010. In the same year, the 1.80 meter tall backcourt player injured her shoulder so badly that she was only able to play again 605 days later, in October 2012. In January 2013 she tore a cruciate ligament . After she had to leave Vâlcea at the end of the 2012/13 season due to financial problems of the club, she joined the Montenegrin first division club ŽRK Budućnost Podgorica . With Budućnost Podgorica, she won the championship and the Montenegrin Cup in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. In 2015 she won the EHF Champions League with ŽRK Budućnost Podgorica. She was then voted World Handball Player of the Year 2015. She has been under contract with the Romanian club CSM Bucharest since the 2017/18 season .

National team

With the Romanian national team Neagu took part in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and won in the European Championship 2010 in Denmark and Norway , they in 53 hits scorer was the bronze medal . At the 2013 World Cup , she was the most successful Romanian thrower with 29 hits, eight of which were seven meters . At the 2014 European Championship , she was elected to the tournament's all-star team. At the 2015 World Cup she was third with Romania. Neagu was also the tournament's top scorer. She was also a member of the Romanian contingent for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . At the 2018 European Championships , where she finished fourth with Romania, she sustained a serious knee injury in the last main round match . Although Neagu could not then be used, she finished third in the scorers list with 44 hits.
