The three-color angelfish ( Holacanthus tricolor ), also known as rock beauty , is a species of the genus Holacanthus from the family of angelfish (Pomacanthidae).

Appearance

Tricolor angelfish grow up to a foot long. Their basic body color is yellow in the front head area to the pectoral fin, on the tail and on the fin edges. The muzzle is blue or black, the middle of the body black, the edges of the fins and the mouth region are bright blue in color.

distribution

It lives in the tropical, western Atlantic from Florida to Brazil , in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Caribbean . Queen angelfish live alone or in pairs at depths of 1 to 70 meters. They prefer regions rich in corals and sponges. In the Caribbean, the three-color angelfish is the smallest of the angelfish found there.

Aquarium keeping

This fish species is unsuitable for keeping in an aquarium due to its food specialization. They are therefore not imported into Germany; Experience from other aquarists shows that, due to the lack of sponges, it attacks various invertebrates and is very intolerant to aquarium inhabitants.
