Holger Peter Schneider (born August 4, 1963 in Güstrow ) is a German handball player and coach .
Athletic career
player
Holger Schneider has been playing handball since he was seven. He was active as a left winger at SV Post Schwerin , HC Empor Rostock and SG Flensburg-Handewitt . He ended his career after one season (1998/99) as a player-coach with the later Austrian champions A1 Bregenz . In 1997, he won the EHF Cup with SG Flensburg-Handewitt . His sporting successes also include two victories in the FDGB Cup with SC Empor Rostock in 1987 and 1988, participation in two EC semi-finals, two vice championship titles ( 1995/96 season and 1996/97 season ) and participation in the DHB- Cup final in 1994 with the Flensburgers.
The 1.88 meter tall Schneider played 98 games in the GDR men's national handball team and the German national team , in which he scored 197 goals. The left wing was at the 1988 Olympic Games , the 1990 World Cup and the 1992 Olympic Games in the squad of the national team of the GDR and the Federal Republic .
Trainer
After the 1998/1999 season, Holger Schneider was the coach of SV Post Schwerin until 2004. After his leave of absence there, he moved to HSG Wetzlar for a Bundesliga season . Since 2005 he has been the successor to Norbert Henke coach in the second Bundesliga at Stralsund HV , with whom he achieved direct promotion to the first division in 2007/08. His contract with SHV, which ran until June 30, 2009, was terminated on June 5, 2008. From the 2008/09 season he was initially active as sports director at HC Empor Rostock ; he signed a three-year contract. Before the start of the 2010/11 season, Holger Schneider took over the vacant coaching position at HC Empor Rostock from Lars Rabenhorst ; he gave up the post of sports director. In September 2010, in the middle of the season, he handed over the coaching position to his previous assistant coach Gunter Funk and declared that from now on he wanted to concentrate exclusively on his activities as managing director and sporting director. On November 19, 2011, the Rostock Association announced the separation from Holger Schneider on December 31, 2011. In November 2012 he took over the coaching position at the third division HF Springe ; at the end of the 2013/14 season he left the club. He coached the Güstrow handball club in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Association League in the 2014/15 season. Under his leadership, the club rose to the MV league. From 2015 to 2017 Schneider coached the Luxembourg first division club HB Esch , who won the Luxembourg championship and the Luxembourg Cup in 2017.
His successes as a coach include promotion to the 1st handball league with SV Post Schwerin (2000/2001) and Stralsund HV (2007/2008) and winning the Luxembourg championship with HB Esch (2017).

Schneider is married to Kerstin Schneider, with whom he has a daughter.
