Viktor Szilágyi [ ˈviktor ˈsilaːɟi ] (born September 16, 1978 in Budapest ) is a former Austrian handball player of Hungarian origin. Since 2019 he has been managing director of the German record champions THW Kiel .

Career

Viktor Szilágyi

At the age of seven, Szilágyi held a handball between his hands for the first time at Union St. Pölten in Austria. His father István Szilágyi is a 200-time Hungarian national player and was coach of the Austrian first division club UHK Krems until summer 2013 .

Szilágyi played in the handball Bundesliga for TSV Bayer Dormagen and TUSEM Essen, among others . After the license refusal for Essen, he came to THW Kiel before the 2005/06 season , where he was rarely used due to protracted injuries. From the 2008/09 to 2009/10 season Szilágyi played at VfL Gummersbach . On December 21, 2007 he signed the contract with the Oberbergische.

From the 2010/11 season, Szilágyi played for SG Flensburg-Handewitt . In the summer of 2012 he moved to the then second division club Bergischer HC, with whom he rose to the first division in 2013. After the 2015/16 season, Szilágyi ended his career and took over the position of sporting director at Bergischer HC. Due to the personnel and sporting situation at BHC, he made his comeback on September 24, 2016 and should be in the squad until the end of the season. A serious injury on February 15 in the game against Füchse Berlin - Szilagyi tore his anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments - ended his career prematurely. During this time, Jörg Föste primarily took over his office . From January 1, 2018, he worked as the sporting director at THW Kiel . A year later, Szilágyi took over the position of managing director at THW.

Szilágyi made his debut in the Austrian national team on February 16, 1998 against Lithuania. In the past 18 years, up to April 2016, he was involved in 200 international matches, including the 2014 European Championship .

Viktor Szilágyi was feared offensively mainly because of his blow throws .
