Ettingshausen is a district of the municipality of Reiskirchen in the central Hessian district of Gießen . It has around 1,900 inhabitants and is the southernmost district of Reiskirchen, which is already part of the Wetterau .

history

Ettingshausen was first mentioned on April 4, 1286, but it has probably existed for a longer time. Barrows from the Bronze Age in the vicinity prove an early settlement .

Ettingshausen was formerly a village with three-field farming (Gewanndorf). In the Middle Ages it was subordinate to the Münster court , then belonged to Solms for a long time and was finally attached to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806 . During the Second World War , the Ettingshausen airport was used for military purposes. After the Second World War , a settlement developed nearby , today's "Flugplatzsiedlung". Especially refugees and displaced persons from the east found a new home in it.

From the once trains running Butzbach Licher railway the former are only the station and get parts of the railway embankment.

Territorial reform

On January 1, 1977, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent municipality of Ettingshausen was incorporated into the municipality of Reiskirchen according to the law on the reorganization of the Dill district, the districts of Gießen and Wetzlar and the city of Gießen . For Ettingshausen, as for all districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up.

The Evangelical Church Ettingshausen is located in the center of the village on the main street. It was built around 1260 as a fortified church. Thus, in addition to church services, it also served to protect the citizens. Across the street are the rectory and a parish hall .

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Ettingshausen was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1803

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or the landlords and thus from 1806 the “Patrimonial Court of the Princes Solms-Hohensolms-Lich” in Lich was responsible for Ettingshausen. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance 1821–1822 were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. From 1822 the princes of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich let the Grand Duchy of Hesse exercise their court rights on their behalf. “ Landgericht Lich ” was therefore the name of the court of first instance that was responsible for Ettingshausen. The prince also waived his right to the second instance, which was exercised by the law firm in Hungen. It was only as a result of the March Revolution in 1848 that the special rights of the civil servants became final with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848 canceled.

On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Lich Local Court" and allocation to the district of the regional court of Giessen . On January 1, 1882, Ettingshausen was handed over to the Laubach District Court . On July 1, 1968, the Laubach District Court was dissolved and Ettingshausen was added to the district of the Gießen District Court . Now the superordinate instances are the regional court of Giessen , the higher regional court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
