Further development

On July 1, 1912, Allertshausen returned to the jurisdiction of the Grünberg District Court.

In contrast, on April 1, 1913, the municipality of Grüningen came from the Lich District Court to the Gießen District Court.

When the Lich District Court was dissolved on June 1, 1934, the Gießen district expanded to include Arnsburg , Bettenhausen , Birklar , Dorf-Güll , Hattenrod , Langsdorf , Lich , Muschenheim , Nieder-Bessingen and Ober-Bessingen .

On July 1, 1968 the district court district Gießen was expanded again by the municipalities

were subordinated to the district of Giessen.

The next changes were due to the regional reform in Hesse : On April 12, 1972, the district of Altenhain , which was incorporated into Laubach, and the district of Lehnheim, which was incorporated into Grünberg, came from the district court of Alsfeld, as well as the two districts of Odenhausen (Lahn) and Salzböden, which were incorporated into Lollar, from the district court of Wetzlar added. As a result of the formation of the city of Lahn on January 1, 1977, the Gießen District Court was renamed the Lahn-Gießen District Court . When the city of Lahn was dissolved again on August 1, 1979, it was renamed the District Court of Gießen . At the same time, the municipality of Biebertal , which had previously belonged to the judicial district of Wetzlar, was added to the Gießen district.

Another expansion of the Gießen district resulted in the dissolution of the Nidda District Court: the municipality of Hungen became part of the Gießen district on January 1, 2012.

building

Knight figure at the main entrance

Since February 6, 1922, the seat of the district court of Gießen has been a building built between 1913 and 1916 on behalf of the Grand Ducal Building Department at Gutfleischstrasse 1. The main entrance area is particularly striking, because of the four columns and the flight of stairs and a knight figure. During the Second World War , the building suffered great damage, for example the mansard roof was destroyed. Since 1995 an extension has been added to the original building, which has become too small. In 2007, the gable decoration that was added in the 1950s and in need of renovation was removed and the original view restored.

The building is a cultural monument and is under monument protection due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .

The bridge of sighs leading over Gutfleischstrasse , also popularly known as the higher civil service track , creates a direct connection with the building of the regional court in Giessen .
