history

Ev. church

The place was first mentioned in writing as Lindes in a deed from 1269. The village was settled as a forest settlement between the 9th and 12th centuries. A castle was built around 1350, and the Kleinlinden Evangelical Church was completed in 1866 .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Kleinlinden in 1830:

“Kleinlinden (L. Bez. Giessen) evangel Filialdorf; is located on the Chaussee from Giessen to Frankfurt 12 hours from the former place; there is also a road from here to Wetzlar. This place, usually just called Linnes, has 1 church, 1 castle, 60 houses and 365 inhabitants, all of whom are Protestant. Kleinlinden is undoubtedly of later origin. In 1280, Landgrave Heinrich I consented to the donation of an estate to the Arnsburg monastery. "

After the bombing raid on Gießen in the night of December 6th to 7th, 1944, 108 victims were mourned in Kleinlinden.

Kleinlinden was incorporated into Gießen in 1939, which continues to this day with a small interruption. From January 1, 1977 to July 31, 1979, Gießen and with it the Kleinlinden district was part of the independent city of Lahn. After the dissolution of the city of Lahn, Kleinlinden became part of the city of Gießen again. However, the city of Giessen did not regain its district freedom and is therefore also part of the district of Giessen.
