The administrative district of Gießen was one of 11 administrative districts that were established in the Grand Duchy of Hesse after the March Revolution in 1848. It existed until 1852. The seat of the administrative district was Giessen .

history

As a result of the March Revolution there was a territorial reform in the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1848 . The administrative structure, which previously consisted of provinces and districts , was restructured into ten (from 1850: eleven) administrative districts . The administrative district of Gießen was formed from the city and district of Gießen and the district of Grünberg .

As a product of the March Revolution, this territorial reform was in principle reversed after the victory of the restorative forces in the era of reaction in 1852. From the area of ​​the Gießen administrative district, the previously dissolved districts of Gießen (including the city of Gießen) and Grünberg were re-established, and the eastern parts were transferred to the newly formed district of Schotten .
