Annerod is a district of the municipality of Fernwald in the central Hessian district of Gießen with around 2900 inhabitants.
Geographical location
Annerod is located about 5 km east of Giessen surrounded by forests. The district road 157 leads through the village, which joins the federal road 49 in the northwest .
history
The part of the name rode for clearing points to a cleared forest area, which gave the place its name in Carolingian times. The historical origin of the village is obscure. Archaeological finds - like the place name - point to the Carolingian era, but the first known documentary mention dates from 1307 under the name Anenrode in the document book of the city of Wetzlar.
In 1703, Annerod was assigned to Hesse in the Hessian-Nassau partition treaty.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Annerod in 1830:
"Annerod (L. Bez. Giessen) evangel. Branch village; is 1 St. from Giessen, has 74 houses and 360 evangelists. Pop., 1 church and 1 mill. In 1820, many German death mounds were discovered on the Anneröder Heide. With the dissolution of the community with Nassau Weilburg in 1703, the place came exclusively to Hesse. "
Annerod belonged to the area of common law , which was valid here without the superimposition of particular law. This retained its validity even while the membership of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in the 19th century, until 1 January 1900 by the same across the whole German Reich current Civil Code was replaced.
Territorial reform
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Annerod voluntarily merged with the municipalities of Albach and Steinbach to form the municipality of Fernwald on December 31, 1971 .
