Office Hüttenberg (Hessen-Darmstadt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The office Hüttenberg was an office of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt and the subsequent Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806 .

function

In the early modern period , offices were a level between the municipalities and the sovereignty . The functions of administration and jurisdiction were not separated here. The office was headed by a bailiff who was appointed by the rulers.

history

The Hessian Office Hüttenberg originated when the Hesse-Marburg and the County of Nassau-Saarbrücken decided in 1703, the remaining rest of the kondominial ruled Office Hüttenberg divide among themselves. In the first, incomplete division of the office in 1595, the communities that had fallen to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Marburg were still incorporated into the Gießen office.

In 1803, the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt consolidated its ancestral territories and those acquired with the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , which lay north of the Main , in a newly created principality of Upper Hesse (from 1816: Province of Upper Hesse ). With the dissolution of the Old Reich and joining the Rhine Confederation in 1806, the Landgraviate received the status of a Grand Duchy .

In 1821 there was an administrative reform in the Grand Duchy. With it, jurisdiction and administration were separated at the lower level . District districts were created for the administrative tasks previously performed in the offices, and district courts for the first instance jurisdiction. The Hüttenberg office was dissolved. Its administrative tasks were transferred to the district of Gießen , the jurisdiction to the district court of Gießen .
