Originating from the Catholic boys' association (men over 18 years of age) and the Catholic youth association (young people under 18 years of age), a sports club was founded in March 1928 on the initiative of Chaplain Joseph Stürmer under the name DJK Rimpar. It was football played and a Turner team up. In 1930 a gym wheel department was added. In 1934 the association was banned and dissolved by the NSDAP . In May 1949 the DJK Rimpar was brought back to life with the gymnastics wheel and gymnastics departments under Chaplain Erich Ziegler. In 1953 the handball department was established, in 1961 a table tennis department and in 1963 a department for women's gymnastics . A karate department has existed since 1968, and since 1974 the gymnastics groups “mother and child” and children's gymnastics. In 1979 the swimming and skiing department was founded . In 1980 the volleyball and trim-trot departments were added , and athletics in 1984 . In 1986 the weight training department as well as the senior sports and jazz dance department was launched, bowling in 1991 and badminton in 2005 .

In 2014, the DJK Rimpar opened a triple sports hall built in-house in order to be able to offer popular and competitive sports in all areas.

After the first beginnings in 1951 with training units in the parish barn in Rimpar as well as the first friendly matches in 1952, the handball department was founded in 1953 with the start of official games with a men's, youth and school team. The first department head was Elmar Remling, player-coach of the Herbert Strauss men's team. Since the school gymnasium was built on the new settlement in 1954, indoor handball has also been played alongside large and small field handball.

In 1994, the first men's team of the DJK Rimpar under coach Adrian Pasula rose for the first time from the state to the Bavarian league, but after two years in the top Bavarian division again.

In 2007 the men rose again to the Bayern League under the former national player and player-coach Heiko Karrer . In the 2008/2009 season they reached the championship in the Bayern League undefeated and in 2009 they were promoted to the Regional League South. Due to the restructuring of the league, the Rimpar handball players failed as 10th of the Regionalliga Süd to qualify for the newly created 3rd league and had to relegate to the Bayernliga again. In the following season, the team rose as champions in the third division and was divided into the East relay for the 2011/12 season.

Since 2011 the first men's handball team of the DJK Rimpar has been playing as " DJK Rimpar Wölfe ". Since then, the economic sponsor of the men's team has been DJK Rimparer Wölfe GmbH. Its managing director is Roland Sauer.

Jens Bürkle took over the team as coach for the 2012/13 season after he had ended his active career at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten. In his first year as coach, he won the championship with the team in the 3rd league, relay east, and the associated promotion to the single-track 2nd handball Bundesliga in the 2012/13 season . The 2013/14 season ended with the Rimparer Wolves, who started with the smallest budget in the league, in 14th place in the final table.

In 2012, the DJK Rimpar was awarded a prize by the handball Bundesliga in the first-ever competition “Exemplary talent development in the handball amateur sector”.

Building on the successful youth work in the club and in the course of further professionalization, the 2nd men's team rose to the state league in 2013 and the following year directly to the Bavarian league. The first women's team has been playing in the Landesliga Nord since relegation from the Bayernliga in 2009.

The venue of the DJK Rimpar Wölfe is the s.Oliver Arena in Würzburg, also the venue of the s.Oliver Baskets Würzburg. The s.Oliver Arena has a capacity of around 3000 spectators. All other handball teams of DJK Rimpar play their home games in the 1,000-spectator triple sports hall of the market town of Rimpar, which is also called "Hell North" by locals - Rimpar was still one of the northernmost clubs in the league during the Bavarian league - as well as in the adjacent, club's own DJK hall.

For the 2014/15 season , the DJK was able to achieve its best position so far with 5th place in the table and was even able to hold the top of the table for several match days. Up until the penultimate day of the match, promotion was played.

Matthias Obinger became the new coach for the 2015/16 season as the successor to Jens Bürkle , who moved to the first division club TSV Hannover-Burgdorf . The 2015/16 season ended with 14th place in the table in the 2nd handball Bundesliga, which means that the team qualified to remain in the league in the 2016/17 season.

The 2016/2017 season was the most successful in the club's history so far. The team played for promotion until the last matchday. Due to the defeat at VfL Bad Schwartau while TV Hüttenberg and TUS Friesenheim won, she slipped from second to fourth.
