Heiko Karrer (born July 18, 1971 in Erlenbach am Main ) is a German handball trainer and former handball player .

Career

Karrer began playing handball in the youth of TV Großwallstadt . Even before his time as an active player, he moved to TG Nieder-Roden and then to the then regional league team TUSPO Obernburg . As a 19-year-old he went back to the first division team TV Großwallstadt. After eight years he moved to league rivals SG Wallau / Massenheim , then to TUSEM Essen and the Wilhelmshavener HV . He then went to RTV Basel in Switzerland for a year and then returned to Obernburg. In 2006 the trained insurance salesman left Obernburg and went to the Bavarian regional league club DJK Rimpar as a player-coach. With the team, he made it to the Bayern League in the first year. Just two years later, he again managed to make the promotion to the regional league clear. Since September 2009 he has also been working as a trainer in the male youth division of the DHB . In January 2012 it was announced that Karrer will be the new coach at TV Hüttenberg at the end of the season . There he was released from his post in March 2014. In February 2015 he took over the interim coaching position from TV Flein. In September 2015 he became the successor of the dismissed Maik Handschke coach at TV Großwallstadt. In September 2017, he was dismissed without notice from TV Großwallstadt, against which he has filed a lawsuit. Heiko Karrer has been training the national league club Hätzfelder Bullen since December 2017.

Heiko Karrer's father is the former national handball player Josef Karrer .
