Promotion and establishment in the second division

In 2001 the first TUSPO men's team was promoted to the 2nd handball league . Despite the strong local handball competition from TV Großwallstadt , TV Kirchzell and TSG Groß-Bieberau , Obernburg has since established itself well in the league. In the 2001/02 season the 15th, in the following season the 14th and 2003/04 the 13th place at the end. Relegation was also secured in the seasons 2004/05 (15th place), 2005/06 (11th place) and 2006/07 (14th place).

In the 2006/07 season, Lower Franconia reached the second round of the DHB Cup on November 28, 2006 . They lost in Kiel against the eventual cup winners with 40:25 (21:14).

The team played their home games in the Sparkassen-Arena in the neighboring town of Elsenfeld . The team was trained from 2006 by Thorsten Schmid - previously coach of the HSG Bensheim / Auerbach . His contract expired at the end of the season. From the 2009/10 season the team was led by coach Christoph Barthel.

Decline and reorganization in the regional league

In 2011 Obernburg rose from the southern season of the 2nd Bundesliga as the last place. In the following season, the team took 15th place in the 3rd division, Season South and was relegated to the Hessian league. From the 2012/13 season the team was trained by Thomas Göttmann and Robert Schneider. The season ended in 10th place, which Obernburg was again determined as a relegated. In principle, 10th place would have meant relegation, but since three Hessian clubs - Münster, Pohlheim and Gensungen / Felsberg - were relegated from the third leagues this season, Obernburg had to be relegated according to the regulations.

In the 2013/14 season, the team entered the Landesliga Süd, the second division at association level (5th division), and ended up fourth in the table. In the following year, a cooperation was agreed with the neighboring and meanwhile second class TV Großwallstadt and from then on they competed in the state league under the name "MSG TuSpo Obernburg / TVG-Juniors". The season went a lot better and so in the end the championship in the Landesliga Süd and the associated promotion to the Oberliga Hessen could be celebrated. On the rise, however, already in the following season 2015/16 the disillusionment and relegation as the bottom of the league table. Leander Jakob's team is once again hunting for points in the Landesliga Süd in the 2016/17 season.
