Thorsten Schmid (born August 26, 1971 in Groß-Gerau ) is a German handball trainer .

Career

The qualified sports scientist worked as a sports therapist from 1995 to 2009 . In addition, since 2001 he has been working for the Hessian Handball Association (HHV) and since 2009 also for the German Handball Federation ( DHB) as a speaker in the field of training and further education. Schmid was the Hessian state trainer from 2002 to 2007 and from 2004 to 2009 the base trainer at the HHV.

Thorsten Schmid holds an A trainer license . From the 2003/04 season he coached the women's regional league team of TSG Münster . At the end of 2004 he moved to HSG Bensheim / Auerbach , where he coached the second division women's team until the end of the 2005/06 season . He then switched to the men's division and worked for the second division TUSPO Obernburg for three seasons .

In summer 2009, Schmid went to SG Wallau , where he already in the 2004/05 season , parallel to his work as a woman coach as assistant coach of Martin Schwalb the Bundesliga -Men had cared. After initially coaching the male A-youth there , he took over the men who played in the second division of the HSG FrankfurtRheinMain formed by SG Wallau and TSG Münster in the middle of the season, after the previous coaches Mike Fuhrig and Jan-Olaf Immel had been dismissed . From 2010 Schmid trained the women of the HSG Bensheim / Auerbach again. In addition, from 2012 to 2014 he was the coach of the junior national team of the DHB.

After Schmid rose to the top division with HSG Bensheim / Auerbach in 2013, he was dismissed in January 2014 due to the poor sporting situation. For the 2014/15 season he returned to TSG Münster. He left TSG in 2015. Since then he has been the youth coordinator at TSG Friesenheim . At the same time he trains the male B-youth of the HSG Weiterstadt / Braunshardt / Worfelden. From the 2017/18 season Schmid will train the third division men of the MSG Groß-Bieberau / Modau . There he succeeds Ralf Ludwig.
