The SG Weiche-Handewitt was a syndicate that was founded in 1974 by the handball departments of the clubs ETSV Weiche ( Flensburg - Weiche ) and Handewitter SV ( Handewitt ) and existed until 1990.

history

In 1976, the SG rose to the handball regional league , the second highest division in German handball at the time. In 1978 the team moved into the semi-finals of the DHB Cup , where it was defeated by VfL Gummersbach 13:16. In 1981 the SG Weiche-Handewitt became champions of the Regionalliga Nord under coach Wilfried Tetens . In the subsequent round of promotion to the handball Bundesliga , she was eliminated from the Reinickendorfer Füchse , so that she started in the newly created 2nd handball Bundesliga from the 1981/82 season. After three seasons in the second division, he was promoted to the first division in 1984 as runner-up. In 1987 the SG was relegated from the first division, but in the following season 1987/88 managed to regain promotion as champions of the second division north. In addition, the SG-Weiche-Handewitt reached the semifinals of the DHB Cup again in 1988 , where it was eliminated against the SG Wallau / Massenheim . The 1989/90 season ended the SG in 12th place in the table. In the subsequent round of relegation, which was carried out between the six clubs in the table positions 9 to 14, she finished fourth, which meant relegation. In 1990 the SG Flensburg-Handewitt was founded to include the name of the city of Flensburg in the club name and thus to increase the willingness to sponsor within the Flensburg economy. The sponsors of the new syndicate, which took the place of SG Weiche-Handewitt in the second division from the 1990/91 season, were TSB Flensburg and Handewitter SV , which withdrew from SG Weiche-Handewitt.
