Wilfried Tetens

Wilfried Tetens (* 1940 ) is a German handball referee , former handball trainer and board member and board member of the Schleswig-Holstein handball association (HVSH).

Life

In addition to his sports activities, Wilfried Tetens was a teacher of Latin, Greek, history and sports until his retirement , most recently as senior director of studies at the old grammar school in Flensburg .

In 1955, at the age of 15, he first worked as a handball referee and was soon used in the regional league . In 1965 Tetens was appointed to the Bundesliga . Together with Edgar Reichel , he formed a team of referees in which he later also belonged to the most sought-after referees internationally and whistled around 250  international matches . The high point of the joint referee career of Tetens / Reichel was the leadership of the finals of the Olympic handball tournament in Montreal in 1976, after they had already been used at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich .

In addition to his job and his refereeing activity, Tetens volunteered for handball . For example, from 1959 to 1965 he was active as a referee at the Flensburg district handball association. From 1964 to 1973 he also served as a referee in the North District. In 1978 he became an association arbitrator in Schleswig-Holstein , and since 1984 he has been a male manager of the Schleswig-Holstein handball association. In addition, from 1984 to 1991 he worked as a referee for the North German Handball Association (NHV). Tetens was a member of the board and presidium of the handball association Schleswig-Holstein for almost four decades. Since 2005 he has also been chairman of the KHV Flensburg and a member of the extended presidium of the regional association. From 2004 to 2010 he was chairman of TSV Jarplund-Weding .

In addition, Tetens was temporarily active as a handball trainer, for example for the first team of SG Weiche-Handewitt , with which he was champion of the Regionalliga Nord in 1981, but just lost the relegation to promotion to the Bundesliga against the Reinickendorfer Füchse . Tetens was also an active athlete, not only in regional handball, but also as a footballer.

As a sports reporter in the area of ​​regional sports , Tetens was also a freelancer for the NDR and for many years was regularly heard on NDR 1 Welle Nord .

Awards and honors

In 2010, Tetens received the Golden Badge of Honor from the German Handball Federation for its services to handball . In November 2012 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
