Josef "Seppl" Karrer (born March 3, 1939 in Großwallstadt ) is a former German handball player .

Career

Josef Karrer began playing handball as a child in his birthplace. Until 1973 he played for TV Großwallstadt , with whom he was runner- up in the Bundesliga season 1970/71 . In the 1971/72 season he was the top scorer in the handball Bundesliga . In 1973 he left the TVG and played for TSV Lohr until the end of his career in 1979 .

With the German national team , for which he played a total of 39 international matches, Karrer took part in the field handball world championships in 1963 and 1966 . After the team lost 7:14 in the GDR final in 1963 , they became world champions in 1966. In 1972 Josef Karrer was part of the team that took part in the handball tournament of the Summer Olympics in Munich .

For winning the 1966 World Cup, Karrer was honored with the silver laurel leaf .

Others

Josef Karrer trained as a building fitter , but later worked in a bank. His son Heiko Karrer was also a German national handball player.
