Ace Jonovski ( Macedonian Аце Јоновски ; born December 29, 1980 in Struga , SR Macedonia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Macedonian handball player who is mostly used on the left back during his playing days . After he had already been the player- coach of SG Ratingen since 2018 , he ended his active career in the course of the 2019/2020 season and focuses mainly on his coaching duties.

Career

The 2.00 m tall and 104 kg heavy right-hander began his professional career at the Macedonian club RK Pelister Bitola , with whom he played in the 2001/02 EHF Challenge Cup and the 2002/03 EHF Cup . In 2003 he moved to Turkey to Beşiktaş Istanbul and took part in the 2003/04 EHF Cup. After a season he returned to Macedonia and signed with RK Vardar Skopje . With the capital club he played in the EHF Champions League and the Challenge Cup in 2004/05 . In 2005, the TSV St. Otmar St. Gallen signed him . With the Swiss club he was active in the Challenge Cup in 2005/06 and 2006/07. In December 2006 they separated and Jonovski then moved in January 2007 to the Danish Håndboldligaen to Bjerringbro-Silkeborg and took part in the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup 2006/07 . After the second half of the season he joined the Bosnian club RK Bosna Sarajevo , with whom he won the championship and cup in 2008, 2009 and 2010. After he was eliminated in the premier class in 2007/08 and 2008/09 in the group stage, he reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup . From 2010 he ran for RK Metalurg Skopje . There he was champion in 2011, 2012 and 2014 and cup winner in 2011 and 2013. Internationally, he reached the round of 16 in the EHF Cup 2010/11 and in the EHF Champions League 2011/12 as well as the quarterfinals in the EHF Champions League in 2012/13 and 2013/14 . In February 2015 he moved to the Spanish first division club CB Ciudad de Logroño . He was under contract with Bergisch HC until the 2016/17 season . He then joined the regional league team SG Ratingen in 2011 . In October 2018 he also took over the position of assistant coach at SG Ratingen. After the coach Khalid Khan was sacked in January 2019, Jonovski took over the coaching position from Ratingen. At first Jonovski was still active as a player- coach, but ended his active career in November 2019 and now acts exclusively as the head coach of SG Ratingen.

With the Macedonian national team , Ace Jonovski took part in the 2012 European Championship , the 2013 World Championship and the 2014 European Championship . So far, he has played 62 international matches in which he scored 67 goals.

Jonovski lives in Remscheid with his wife and three daughters .
