Bernd Blechschmidt (born August 24, 1961 in Schlema ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Blechschmidt made his international debut at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1981 in Schonach in the Black Forest , where he won the gold medal in the individual competition. At the GDR ski championships in 1982 in Oberwiesenthal, he reached fourth place in the individual Nordic combined. On December 29, 1983 he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup . After he missed the World Cup points position in Oberwiesenthal in 24th place, it will be almost a year before his international appearance again. In the same place he landed at the beginning of the 1984/85 season as 15th for the first time in the points. In the end, with two points won, he reached 41st place in the overall World Cup ranking. In the following years he was not used internationally. At the GDR Ski Championships in 1986 he won silver in the individual combination as well as with the team. A year later, at the GDR Ski Championships in 1987 in Klingenthal , he won his first national title. For the 1988/89 season he came back to the World Cup squad and achieved his best individual World Cup placement with fourth place in Oberwiesenthal. Despite this success, it remained the only World Cup start of the season. In the overall standings he was in 24th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , he finished third in the team competition with Ralph Leonhardt and Thomas Abratis and thus won bronze. In the individual, he landed previously on rank 28. At the GDR ski championships in 1989 in Oberwiesenthal Blechschmidt won his second and last GDR championship title.

In the 1990/91 season, Blechschmidt again competed in some B-World Cup competitions, but did not get above 43rd place in the overall ranking.
