GDR Ski Championships 1986

The competitions of the 38th GDR Ski Championships were spread over several competitions in different venues. It all started with the long-distance competitions, which were held on February 23, 1986 in Johanngeorgenstadt , Saxony . From March 6th to 9th, the decisions for cross-country skiers and combiners followed , which took place in Schmiedefeld in Thuringia . The ski jumpers determined their masters from March 28th to 30th on the jumps in Klingenthal and Oberwiesenthal .

Cross-country skiing

Men

15 km

After two runner-up titles over 30 and 50 km, Uwe Bellmann from Oberwiesenthal was able to receive his first gold medal. A former biathlete, Holger Wick, accepted the bronze medal. He switched to the runners' camp at the beginning of the season.

In constant rain and plus degrees, the 1984 junior world champion, Holger Bauroth, was able to prevail with a half-minute lead. The starting field consisted of only eight seniors.

The first championship decision among cross-country skiers turned out to be really exciting. In the end, only one second separated the winner Holger Bauroth from the runner-up Uwe Bellmann.

3x10 km relay

With the relay gold, Oberhofer Holger Bauroth won his third championship title. The Oberhofer referred the relay from Oberwiesenthal to second place. The army athletes from Thuringia even took bronze with their second season.

Women

Simone Opitz was able to celebrate her second championship title on the sprint route. In doing so, she managed to run out a quarter-minute lead within a quarter of an hour.

Zella-Mehliserin Simone Opitz celebrated her first single title. On the medium-difficulty trail, she relegated the revitalized Carola Jacob, who had become champion over the long distance in February, to silver. Last year's champion Ute Noack was ungrateful fourth.

Despite the two-time champion Simone Opitz, it was only enough for the bronze medal for the season from Zella-Mehlis. The strong relay from Oberwiesenthal relegated the women from Oberhof to second place with over half a minute ahead.

Nordic combination

singles

The veteran Uwe Dotzauer won the combined title. The relay world champion from 1982 , however, benefited from the failure of previous year's champion Heiko Hunger , who did not start the race due to illness. After jumping, Hunger had 50 seconds ahead of Dotzauer.

In the team decision of the combiners, the relay from Klingenthal prevailed even without the sick Heiko Hunger. She referred the teams from Oberwiesenthal and Oberhof to their places.

Ski jumping

Single normal hill

On the Oberwiesenthaler Schanze local hero Jens Weißflog won the championship title on the normal hill in an exciting competition. In the end, only 1.6 points separated him from second-placed Oberhofer Ingo Lesser.

Normal hill team

SC Dynamo Klingenthal won the team championship title in Oberwiesenthal with the veterans Ostwald, Deckert and Freitag.

Large hill

In the last championship decision, there was a Klingenthal double success. Jens Weißflog missed all title chances with a jump of 75 m in the first round, as did Ingo Lesser from Oberhof, who reached into the snow on his second jump.

Medal table

Despite the highest number of medals won, including eight silver medals, Oberwiesenthal only got bronze. After adding up all placements in these three-part championships, the ASK Oberhof was the most successful sports club in the end. The most successful athlete Holger Bauroth took 3 gold medals.
