GDR Ski Championships 1982
The competitions of the 34th GDR Ski Championships took place from February 1 to 6, 1982 in Oberwiesenthal , Saxony . Eight competitions, six individual and two relay decisions, in cross-country skiing , Nordic combined and ski jumping were held. However, the competitions were divided into two parts. While the cross-country skiers and ski jumpers determined their champions from February 1st to 3rd, the combined athletes held their championship on February 5th and 6th. The championship in ski jumping from the large hill as the first national Nordic ski championship decision was carried out as part of the Mühlleithen women's ski race on January 10, 1982. The long-distance championships over 20 km for women and 50 km for men, which also took place in Oberwiesenthal on March 21, 1982, rounded off the championships.

At the second running competition, a new name appeared in the list of winners. Frank Schröder from Klingenthal came out on top with a margin of three seconds over Uwe Bellmann from Oberwiesenthal . Third was Uwe Wünsch . However, all three started as juniors. The first senior, Karsten Brandt, only came in fourth . Nevertheless, after the junior results from the previous day, the coaching guild had believed Uwe Bellmann in particular to win.

The team from Klingenthal won the season title for the ninth time in a row. Uwe Bellmann and Uwe Wünsch had put the SC tractor in the lead, but the two new individual champions Karsten Brandt and Frank Schröder turned the tables in favor of the Klingenthalers in the second half. In the end, they ran almost two minutes ahead of the second-placed relay from Oberwiesenthal. Third placed Oberhofer were already over seven minutes behind.

There was a heartbeat final on the short haul. Initially, the Olympic champion, Barbara Petzold , set a mark with 16:45 min. Somewhat surprisingly, this time was undercut by the 19-year-old Petra Sölter from Oberhof with 16:40 min. Carola Anding crossed the finish line a little later at the same time. Now the tension increased because Veronika Hesse was still on the trail. But she stayed three seconds over the best time with 16:43 min. Now the hundredths of a second were added to the decision and in the end Carola Anding was seven tenths of a second behind Petra Sölter. This was able to celebrate its first GDR championship title. For ASK Vorwärts Oberhof it was the first title on this route in nine years. Overall, the top field among the 43 starters was very even, with a mere 15 seconds between first and sixth place.

With a view to the World Cup, the longer of the two routes that were completed in the championships was of course the focus of the coaches. In the absence of Olympic champion Barbara Petzold , who skipped this route, the last world champion over 20 km, Veronika Hesse , was the favorite. But in the end, the 20-year-old Ute Noack from Oberwiesenthal stole the show from all established athletes from the 38-strong starting field. She won her first championship title 15 seconds ahead. There was also a novelty behind this. For the first time, two athletes, Veronika Hesse and Petra Rohrmann , were each honored with the silver medal because they were at the same time . The enormous power density, all three starting relay Olympic champions came under the top six, was also reflected in the fact that the gap between first and sixth was not even a minute.

The SC Traktor team won the relay in front of a local crowd. While she was 10 seconds behind the Oberhof relay after the first runner, the second runner Ute Noack turned the tide and was 25 seconds ahead. Last runner Barbara Petzold was able to extend this lead to 43 seconds. With a considerable gap of more than two minutes, the relay from SC Motor Zella-Mehlis got bronze.

Nordic combination
The championship was also dominated by the World Championship nomination for the combined athletes. The focus was primarily on the potential contenders Winkler, Schmieder, Dotzauer and Langer. And already after the jump there was tension. Minimal punk distances between the first three placed promised an exciting running competition. Konrad Winkler was in first place with 0.6 points (4 seconds) ahead of Uwe Dotzauer , while Gunter Schmieder , in third place, was only 0.4 points behind Dotzauer, which was 6.6 seconds behind the leader. Andreas Langer was already slightly behind in fifth place, almost two minutes behind Winkler. On the following day, Konrad Winkler was able to expand the rather narrow gaps to Dotzauer and Schmieder and in the end won the championship title with ease. As the last starter, he had a lead of 12 seconds over Dotzauer and even 44 seconds over Schmieder halfway through the distance. In the end it was 28 seconds or 1:29 min.

Ski jumping
Normal hill
After the master of the large hill Klaus Ostwald had set the hill record with 94 meters, but could not stand it, the jury canceled the round and shortened the run-up. After the restart, Matthias Buse from Klingenthal took the lead with 92 meters ahead of his club mate Manfred Deckert . This increased in the second round, like the majority of the jumpers and stood the longest jump with 91.5 meters. Buse defended his leading position with 89 meters and secured the championship title with a six point lead.

Large hill
With the newly crowned Four Hills Tournament winner Manfred Deckert and his club mate Klaus Ostwald , who is also in good shape , the favorites of the 51-strong starting field were named. It was therefore not unexpected that the two Klingenthalers dominated the competition on the local Great Aschbergschanze, which took place as part of the international women's ski race in Mühleiten. In the end, Ulrich Pschera even made it a three-fold success for Klingenthal, even though Pschera were 29.5 points behind silver. At 106 meters, the new master Klaus Ostwald jumped a new hill record in front of around 7,000 spectators.
