Holger Freitag (born October 8, 1963 in Steinheidel-Erlabrunn ) is a former German ski jumper .
Career
On December 30, 1980, on Friday in Oberstdorf, he had his first ski jumping World Cup . However, the first three years of his career were largely unsuccessful.
At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 , Friday reached 27th place on the normal hill and 39th place on the large hill. In the team competition, he came in 4th place together with Matthias Buse , Klaus Ostwald and Manfred Deckert and thus narrowly missed the medal ranks. On January 6, 1983, Friday jumped in Bischofshofen for the first time with an 11th place to a point. Two days later he was able to win his first and only World Cup competition in Harrachov . At the end of the 1983/84 season he finished 29th in the overall World Cup ranking.
At the 1984 Winter Olympics , Friday jumped to 35th place in the competition on the normal hill.
He had to break off the Four Hills Tournament in 1984/85 after two rather mediocre jumps in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen and a serious fall in Innsbruck . After this fall, he was operated on several times and was unable to build on his previous successes. In 1986 he again competed in three World Cup competitions, where he once again jumped among the top ten in Liberec with 8th place. He finished his last World Cup on February 21, 1986 in Gstaad in 13th place.
After his career, he studied medicine and received his doctorate. He is a specialist in orthopedics and works as a resident doctor in Auerbach in Vogtland . His son Richard Freitag and his daughter Selina Freitag are also ski jumpers.
