Dihydrofolic acid is an intermediate in the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid from folic acid by dihydrofolate reductase . Their salts are called dihydrofolates.
Some drugs such as sulfonamides inhibit the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid.
