Sergio Ruiz Casanova (born July 7, 1977 in Sagunt ) is a former Spanish handball player .

Life

Sergio Casanova began his career at Universidad de Oviedo Norrco and moved to ThSV Eisenach in the first division in Germany for the 1999/2000 season . There he played until the 2003/2004 season, before the club had to accept relegation at the end of the season.

The next season he hired at TUSEM Essen . In the first year the team won the EHF-Cup in the final against SC Magdeburg . The club received no license for the 2005/2006 season and had to continue playing in the third division. Casanova was involved in the two direct promotions to the upper house, in 2006 in the 2nd Bundesliga and 2007 in the first Bundesliga. After only one season, the club had financial problems again.

On February 2, 2009 he moved from Essen to the second division club TuS Nettelstedt-Lübbecke , for which he was active until the end of the season. He then played for BM Aragón .

The 1.95 m long and 95 kg heavy Ruíz Casanova was versatile in the back area . Due to his two-handed ability, he could be used in the positions back center, back area left or back area right. On November 28, 2012, he suffered a shoulder injury in a league game. As a result, he ended his career in 2013.

In April 2016 he became managing director and deputy trainer of HBV Jena 90 . Ruíz Casanova is married and has a daughter and a son.
