Rainer Osmann (born July 6, 1950 in Eisenach - Stregda ) is a German former handball player and coach .

Career

From 1964 on, Rainer Osmann actively played handball at BSG Motor Eisenach , where he became assistant coach at Hans-Joachim Ursinus' side in 1985 . In 1990 Osmann took over the coaching position of the HSG Obersuhl , with which he rose to the top division. After two years in Obersuhl , he became a coach at his old club ThSV Eisenach, which played in the 2nd Bundesliga . Under his leadership, Eisenach made it to the 1st Bundesliga in 1997 . After his engagement in Eisenach, he trained the second division HG Erlangen between January and May 2001 .

Between August 2001 and February 2008 Osmann was the national coach of the Austrian men's handball team . In the summer of 2008 he was in charge of training for the national league club VfB Mühlhausen, which had no coach shortly before the start of the season. Then the A license holder took over the position of national coach for the German junior team. In April 2009 he succeeded Armin Emrich as coach of the German national women's handball team . In February 2011, he asked for his contract to be terminated by June 30th. Due to illness, however, he could not guarantee the care up to this point, so that on March 25, 2011 Heine Jensen was introduced as Osmann's successor, who immediately took over the work. In spring 2012 Osmann joined SV Town & Country Behringen / Sonneborn as a sports and youth coordinator. In February 2013 he became sports director in the youth division of the Thuringian HC .
