In 2005 Jensen took over the coaching of the women's team from the Norwegian first division club Sola HK . With the help of the Danish coach Morten Arvidsson , who was coaching the German Bundesliga club HC Leipzig at the time , Jensen was signed up by the second division club SV Union Halle-Neustadt in the summer of 2007 . After Arvidsson resigned his post in the summer of 2008, Heine Jensen took over as coach of HC Leipzig. Under his leadership, the HCL won the German championship in 2009 and 2010.

Until June 30, 2011, he performed both functions side by side, and has only been national coach since July 2011. Under his leadership, Germany reached the quarter-finals at the 2013 World Cup , but was eliminated there against his home country. On January 7, 2015, it was announced that his contract was terminated retrospectively as of December 31, 2014. In the 2015/16 season he coached the German club HG Saarlouis .
