The 2018/19 season of the 3rd division was the ninth season of the third highest German division in men's handball .

mode

The 3rd league consists of four seasons, the composition of which was based on geographical considerations. A double round tournament is played in each season . The four season winners then play the three promoted players in the second Bundesliga in a relegation tournament. The three last-placed teams of each season are relegated to the corresponding major leagues . Deviating from this general stipulation, there may be other promotion and relegation scenarios that are bindingly regulated in the DHB game rules and the implementation regulations.

The top four of the individual seasons qualify for relegation to the 2nd handball Bundesliga. In the 1st round, the 1st and 2nd promoted players are won in one game each. In the following second round, the respective losers from the 1st round meet to determine the 3rd promoted player.
