Gintautas Vilaniškis (born November 11, 1971 in Kaunas , Soviet Union ) is a Lithuanian handball player . He is 2.00 m tall. Vilaniškis is married to Eglė and has two children.
Gintautas Vilaniškis began playing handball at Granitas Kaunas, where he also made his debut in the first Lithuanian league. His team has won the championship every year since the establishment of an independent Lithuanian league; therefore Vilaniškis was looking for a new challenge in 1996 and moved to HC Empor Rostock in the German 2nd handball league . After good performance, he moved on to VfL Gummersbach in the 1st handball league in 1998 , but returned to the second division after just one year, where he joined the newly promoted Eintracht Hildesheim . With the Domstadt team, he went straight up to the first division in 2000, but then moved to Italy to the first division club Pallamano Triest, where he won the Italian championship in 2002. In 2003 he returned to Germany for ThSV Eisenach , with whom he was relegated to the second division in 2004. In the 2004/05 season he then played for the regional league club LHC Cottbus , before he was taken back under contract in 2005 by his old club Eintracht Hildesheim. There he rose to the first division for the second time, but left the club in 2006 and returned to his Lithuanian homeland, where he won the Lithuanian championship again in 2007 with VŠĮ Panevėžys. Since November 1, 2009 he has been playing in Switzerland for the KTV Visp in the 1st division (3rd highest division). There he is trained by his friend Vigindas Petkevičius .
Gintautas Vilaniškis has so far played over 100 international matches for the Lithuanian national team. For his country he took part in the men's handball world championship in 1997 and the European handball championship in 1998. For the men's handball world championship 2007 in Germany, he could not qualify with Lithuania.
