Life

In 2000 Aðalsteinn began his coaching career as an assistant coach at the Icelandic women's first division club UMF Stjarnan . In 2002 he was coach of the women's first division team Gròtta KR and in 2003 of ÍB Vestmannaeyja , with whom he became champion and cup winner. In the subsequent EHF Challenge Cup of women 2003/2004 he reached the semi-finals with his team, but they had to admit defeat to the eventual winner, the 1. FC Nürnberg Handball, trained by Herbert Müller . Through contacts with Müller took Adalsteinn Eyjólfsson 2004 as coach of the German Handball League Women playing TuS women . After his relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga, he returned to Iceland in 2005 and trained again until 2008 for the UMF Stjarnan's women's team, which under his leadership won the Icelandic championship in 2007 and 2008.

He replaced the trainer Maik Handschke . After he was on leave on October 11, 2014 after the fourth defeat in the eighth game of the season as coach of ThSV Eisenach, he was coach at TV Hüttenberg since January 2015 . With the TVH, Aðalsteinn initially made his way to the 3rd division after the 2014/15 season , only to lead his team back to the 2nd division a year later . At the end of the 2016/17 season, the Icelandic coach achieved an absolute novelty since the existence of the single-track second Bundesliga with TV Hüttenberg - the direct march from the 3rd handball league to the handball league .
After the 10th matchday of the 2017/18 season in the DKB Handball Bundesliga, TV Hüttenberg announced the termination of the contract with Aðalsteinn. That same evening, league rival HC Erlangen announced the Icelandic player's commitment with immediate effect. He coached HC Erlangen until February 2020.
