Handball women

history

From 1998 the first women's team managed to march through from the fifth class association league to the first division . The team won all games in the Verbandsliga 1998/99, in the Bayernliga 1999/2000 and in the Regionalliga 2000/01 and did not lose a single game in the 2nd Bundesliga in 2001/02, albeit with three draws. As a promoted team, they achieved third place in the 1st Bundesliga 2002/03, the following year the team finished with a 2nd place and a cup win, before moving out of the fifth division in the 2004/2005 season with winning the eleventh German Championship was crowned. In the following season the club was in first place after the league round, but lost the semi-finals in the play-offs against the eventual champions HC Leipzig . The players won the game for 3rd place against the DJK / MJC Trier .

At the beginning of June 2006, the entire regional league women's team of the former second division club HG Quelle Fürth joined 1. FCN Handball as a new second team. The HG Quelle Fürth is a handball community of the TV Fürth 1860 and the SpVgg Fürth . In the 2006/2007 season, the club handball players won the title again in the final against Bayer Leverkusen . With a 38:31 in their own hall, they managed to turn the five-goal deficit from the first leg in Leverkusen. At this point in time it was not yet clear whether the FCN would again receive a Bundesliga license for the following season, as the Bundesliga-GmbH Sportförderung Noris , which finances the game, had to file for bankruptcy. Only after a protest against the license refusal did the FCN receive it. The club handball team started the new season with just seven players from the championship team, which had been supplemented by three newcomers from the regional league and the Danish national player Maja Sommerlund strengthened. From this season onwards, Bundesliga matches are organized in the newly founded 1. FCN Handball GmbH . In the EHF Champions League 2007/08 they made it into the main round. In the same season in the final of the DHB Cup, there was a clash with HC Leipzig, which was lost 28:33. However, they defeated the same opponent in both finals of the German Championship and thus defended their title.

The Bundesliga home games were played in the hall on Berliner Platz, also known as the sports hall in the vocational training center (BBZ). The capacity is 2,166 spectators.

On May 15, 2009 the Spielbetriebs-GmbH, which was responsible for the Bundesliga team, filed for bankruptcy. The DHB then withdrew the license for the upcoming Bundesliga season from 1. FC Nürnberg. The announced bankruptcy petition of the 1. FC Nürnberg Handball club did not take place at first because negotiations with the creditors took place. On June 8, 2009, however, the bankruptcy petition was filed with the Nuremberg District Court. Shortly afterwards, the successor club was established under the umbrella of 1. FCN under the name 1. FCN Handball 2009 e. V. newly founded. Therefore, the first women first played in the Bavarian League, from which they then had to relegate to the Bavarian State League North Staffel in 2015. Since the 2016/2017 season, the women have been playing in the Bavarian League again after being promoted back to the top.

Handball men

The men's handball players of 1. FC Nürnberg have had significantly fewer successes than the women in their history. After all, the first team reached the quarter-finals of the final round of the German field handball championship in 1949. And ten years later, the men on the large field were among the best Bavarian teams, as the Bavarian championships of 1959 and 1962 show.

In the 2008/2009 season, the first team played in the regional league.
