The tennis club 1. FC Nürnberg eV emerged as an independent club from the tennis department of the main club founded in 1924 as part of the organizational reform at 1. FC Nürnberg . Like the other former club departments, the club has since been part of the FCN umbrella organization. In 2013 the club had 29 teams of all ages. The 1st men's team played in the 1st Bundesliga in 2015 .

History of the men's team

The club has now been in the top division for 16 years: 1987–1990, 1992–1996, 1998, 2005–2007 and 2010–2012. In the 2nd Tennis Bundesliga South formed in 2001, the FCN played from 2002 to 2004 and 2008 to 2009 and 2013. After relegation from the Bundesliga, the club ended the 2008 season with fourth place in the 2nd Bundesliga South and made it in 2009 as Master of the 2nd league south the return to the highest German division. After three years in the first tennis Bundesliga , 1. FC Nürnberg will be back in the men's second division from 2013 after relegation in 2012.

Stadion

The club's own tennis facility at the Valznerweiher can accommodate more than 2,500 spectators. The Center Court has a capacity of 1,200, Court I has seats for 400 spectators, Court II for 200 spectators.

Tournament organizer

In addition to many internal championships, district championships and Bavarian and national youth tournaments, the 1.FC Nürnberg tennis club also hosted an international WTA women's tennis tournament from 2013 to 2019. From June 8th to 16th, 2013, the Nuremberg Insurance Cup took place for the first time , a WTA Tour tournament with prize money of 235,000 US dollars. In 2014 the tournament was held again as part of the WTA Tour with a total of 250,000 US dollars in prize money.
