Handball
The club's men's handball teams had their heyday in the 1950s under the national player and player- coach Ottmar Sutter, who came from VfL Neckarau in 1947 . In the 1951/52 season Harleshausen was first South German champion in indoor handball, thus qualifying for the championship finals in 1952 , where the team reached fifth place.
The team was even more successful in field handball , which was much more popular at the time : SV Harleshausen became South German champions in 1953, and then - after the State Association of Hesse had switched to the Southwest German regional association - four times Southwest German champions (1954 to 1956 and again in 1959); In the seasons 1951 , 1953 , 1954 , 1955 , 1956 and 1959 Harleshausen qualified for participation in the final round of the German championship in field handball, but failed several times only in the semi-finals. Between 8,000 and 30,000 spectators came to the home games of these finals in Kassel.
The field handball Bundesliga belonged to the SVH from the 1968 to 1969 season , and then again from 1971 until the last Bundesliga season of this sport in 1973. In this 1973 season , the SVH also reached the sporting climax of the club's history with the German runner-up in field handball. The final was lost against TV Großwallstadt at 10:13 in extra time.
The first men's handball team secured qualification for the newly created 3rd division in 2010 with the 8th place in the handball regional league Southwest and played in the season 2010/2011 in the East but had to be relegated there immediately accept the league. In the 2013/14 season, the first SVH men's team played in the Hessian National League North.
