Field handball Bundesliga 1967

The field handball Bundesliga 1968 was the second Bundesliga season in German field handball . The games for the 19th field handball championship of the DHB were played in a north and a south relay between April and September 1968; the final took place on September 8, 1968 in front of 23,000 spectators in the Düsseldorf Rheinstadion .

The new German champion was TV Oppum 1894 , who defeated SG Leutershausen 18:16 in the final of the season winners . After the championship in 1966 , Oppum won the second field handball title in the club's history; the SG Leutershausen, which had celebrated the indoor championship in 1968 , just missed the double championship.

Relegated to the regional leagues were Eintracht Hildesheim , BSV Solingen 1898 , TSV 1905 Rot and TSV Siemensstadt .

The European field handball cup , which was held for the first time, was won by last year's German champion, TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen , who won over clubs from Suhr ( Switzerland ), Linz ( Austria ) and Hengelo ( Netherlands ).

mode

The league was played in two seasons with ten teams each, the national leagues north and south. The two season winners who played the final of the German championship were determined in the first and second legs.

The last two teams of each season had to relegate to the regional leagues. If there was a tie after the last game day, play-offs were held.

Climbers

The regional league champions of this summer season 1968 qualified for participation in the following Bundesliga season in 1969 . Sportfreunde Hamborn 07 (regional champion west) and Hohner SV Eintracht (regional champion north) were qualified for the north relay, and SG Dietzenbach (regional champion south-west) were directly qualified for the southern relay . The second climber in the southern season was determined in two qualifying games between the regional champion South, TC Frisch Auf Göppingen , and the Berlin champion Reinickendorfer Füchse , Göppingen prevailed (13: 12/11: 16); both games took place in Berlin.

Summary of the season

SG Leutershausen was able to preserve the shape of the indoor season, surrendered only one point at home, lost only two away games, and was thus able to keep last year's finalist TV Großwallstadt at a close distance in the Bundesliga South. Toughest competitor of the season winner TV Oppum in the north was last year's champion TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen.

In the final of the two season winners, Leutershausen initially had the advantage on his side, at halftime the North Baden team led by four goals (8: 4) and seemed on the best way to the double championship. Only one of the four Oppumer goals resulted from the current game, the other three from penalty throws. The TVO did not give up and the team managed to turn the game around. Unlike in the first half of the game, every ball landed in the goal, and the Oppumer deserved to win because Leutershausen became increasingly nervous and "lost his head" in the last quarter of an hour, as Leutershausen coach Bernd Kuchenbecker noted.
