The field handball Bundesliga 1970 was the fourth Bundesliga season in German field handball . The games for the 21st field handball championship of the DHB were played in a north and a south relay between April and August 1970; the final took place on August 16, 1970 in front of 18,000 spectators in Minden's Weserstadion .
The new German champion was TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen , who defeated TV Hochdorf in the final of the season winners with 15:11. Dankersen won the second field championship title in the club's history.
Relegated this season were the Reinickendorfer Füchse and TS Esslingen 1890 ; In addition, the German indoor handball champion in 1970 , TC Frisch Auf Göppingen , withdrew his team from field handball operations. After Hamburger SV and VfL Gummersbach in the previous year, Göppingen was the third prominent club that wanted to forego the balancing act between field and indoor handball and concentrate entirely on the more attractive indoor season.
The defending champion TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen won the European Cup for the third time in a row against last year's German champions, SG Leutershausen .
mode
The league was played in two seasons with eight teams each, the national leagues north and south. In the first and second legs, the respective season winners and relegated teams were determined.
For the first time, a semi-final with home and away legs was played, for which the two table first and second in each season qualified. The winners of the semifinals played the final of the German championship.
The last team of each season had to relegate to the regional league.
Climbers
For the qualification of two teams for promotion to the Bundesliga in the following season 1971 qualifying games of the regional league champions of this summer season 1970 were scheduled.
The promoted to the Bundesliga North was determined in a mini-tournament of the champions of the regional associations West ( TuS Ferndorf ), North ( Hohner SV Eintracht ) and Berlin ( TSV Siemensstadt ):
- TSV Siemensstadt - TuS Ferndorf : 13:15
- TuS Ferndorf - Hohner SV Eintracht: 16:12
- Hohner SV Eintracht - TSV Siemensstadt: 21:12
Ferndorf was promoted.
The champions of the South German ( TSV Oftersheim ) and the Southwest German Regional Association ( SVH Kassel ) played the promoted to the Bundesliga South in a two-way round, since each club could win once, a playoff was scheduled:
- TSV Oftersheim - SVH Kassel : 16:19
- SVH Kassel - TSV Oftersheim : 9:13
- TSV Oftersheim - SVH Kassel: 10: 8
Since Frisch Auf Göppingen withdrew his team, both clubs were promoted.
Summary of the season
In the southern group, the SG Leutershausen had won the title for the third time in a row; Since GW Dankersen only finished second in the north, the two previous finalists met in the semi-finals, in which Dankersen prevailed: Of the seven goals that Dankersen had set in the first leg, Leutershausen was only able to catch up in the second leg. In the final in the Weserstadion at home, Dankersen owed it in particular to Bernd Munck , who "played like unleashed" , that the opponent TV Hochdorf had no chance.
