The TS Steinheim ( Turnerschaft Steinheim 1874 e. V. is) a 1874 established Hessian sports club from the Hanauer district Steinheim . He offers handball , tennis and gymnastics and runs a hiking group .
Handball
The club is known nationwide for its handball department, whose men took part in all seasons of the field handball Bundesliga . Since the Bundesliga season 1972 was suspended because of the preparation of the national players for the Summer Olympics , a cup round in 1972 was played without the participation of the national players. The Turnerschaft reached in the Group South into second place, was in the semifinals against the league first of the Northern Group, the VfL Eintracht Hagen , prevail with 17:12 and 16:16 and defeated in the final in Rüsselsheim the TV Hochdorf with 17:15 to Extension, whereby she was the first and only German cup winner in field handball.
In indoor handball, TS Steinheim rose to the top of the table in the Regionalliga Südwest at the end of the 1973/74 season and after winning the playoff against SC Borussia 04 Fulda tied for points in the Bundesliga . After the team was in eighth place in the table in the southern group at the end of the 1974/75 season , two relegation games followed against the eighth of the table in the north group, the OSC 04 Rheinhausen , of which the first was won 14:13, but the second was lost 8:12 which resulted in the descent.
Since 2009, the handball department of TS Steinheim and the handball players of TV Kesselstadt have formed a handball community , the HSG Hanau , whose youth team has been playing in the A-Youth League since 2011 .
