Jürgen Beck (handball player)

Jürgen Beck (born August 13, 1959 in Eisenach ) is a German handball player .

Jürgen Beck, who was on the right wing player position, played for ThSV Eisenach until 1997 . He then worked on a voluntary basis on the Supervisory Board of ThSV-Marketing GmbH for sporting matters.

Jürgen Beck began his athletic career in athletics ; from 1973 to 1976 he attended the sports school of the SC Turbine Erfurt and in 1974 was GDR runner-up in the decathlon . He completed an apprenticeship as a vehicle fitter with a high school diploma at the Eisenach automobile plant and then also worked in this plant. In 1985 Jürgen Beck was appointed to the GDR national handball team.

Jürgen Beck comes from a sports-loving family: his father Herbert Beck was an amateur boxer and handball fan known around Eisenach as "Bongo", his older brother Helmut Beck is a qualified sports teacher in Stuttgart, Jürgen Beck, who also goes by the nickname of Father "Bongo" became known, played handball from the age of 17 and was discovered as a talent by Frieder Singwald . He played for BSG Motor Eisenach and in 1977 was part of the first men's team under coach Hans-Joachim Ursinus . After 1990 he worked in Eschwege , where he played for TSV Eschwege. When his employer opened a branch in Eisenach in 1993, Jürgen Beck also returned to Eisenach for sport, he played again for ThSV Eisenach, which he led as team captain in the handball Bundesliga in 1996/1997 . After the team's relegation and the associated change of coach, Beck temporarily took on the team as an interim coach.
